Today's page brought back memories of Bethany being attacked in a similarly unsavory place. *shudder*

Little bit intentional, that.

I also gave the briefest of brief thoughts to including in the background a picture of a cat sitting in a flying saucer, but I knew there are too many idiots out there who would see this as “trivializing the moment”.

That's immediately where my mind went, too. And even though we're dealing with a super-powered mutant here, I am still worried for Jean. The expression on her face in the last panel made my heart sink.

Well done, sir!

P.S. You have mentioned here (and multiple times) that in her current state, Jean possesses the mind of a five-year-old. I happen to be the parent of a five-year-old, so that might be part of the reason I'm cringing in anticipation of the next page...

Yes -somehow the anticipation makes today feel like a Friday.  Good story telling that...

Uhm, well, to be fair I suppose I should mention that Jean’s “next page” is actually next issue.

How on earth do you keep up with all the story plots? Do you keep a type of flowchart?

Internal debate:

upon hearing this "news" , do I have the camera spin out over my head as I scream "Byyyyyrrrrrnnnnne"

Or stumble from my upright lab table and scream "NOOOOOOOOOO"

When I first started writing professionally I kept a small notebook in which I jotted ideas and plot threads, but very soon I came to realize it was best to work from memory. It became a built in editor: what I didn’t remember probably wasn’t very good.

Didn't occur to us for a moment that Charles was NOT an X-Man himself.

Are you talking about X-Men #117, the flashback story where Charles fought Amahl Farouk? That's the first issue I ever bought, and it sold my 13-year-old self on the X-Men!

(Before then, I'd only ever heard of the X-Men from a fairly recently acquired copy of Son of Origins of Marvel Comics, but I was a big fan of your artwork from Marvel Team-Up, so when I picked up that issue and thumbed through it, everything fell into place nicely.)

Today's page is one of my favorites out of all we've seen so far.

Interesting! That’s actually one of the last issues of JB’s X-Men run I added to my collection (when I was a kid) — because it only focused on Professor X. I had a VERY limited allowance... I had to put a lot of consideration into every comic I bought.

I also skipped Alpha Flight #6 for the same reason. I thought Snowbird was “okay” (and the “white pages” didn’t make me feel like I was getting enough bang for my buc... er, my 60¢! :D

btw I did grow to appreciate that Snowblind gag! I think it’s genius now.

A little treat, today. I have to be up and out early tomorrow, so I'm giving you two pages.

(Cue complaints that this makes for a longer wait until Monday!)
