Man-o-man, I can't get over how great the paint job is on
your ponies Jodi! Once again, Well Done.
Perhaps you could post some work-in-progress photos? Please?
When I used to customize figures based on specific episodes
of the animated Batman or Superman shows, I would make as
many sketches as I could while 'pausing' the video tape.
(to get the 'lines' just right)
I had reams of pages with these reference sketches that I'd refer back to while painting the figs.
Anyway I'm curious if that's how anyone else does it.
I'm fairly certain No-one could do Jack-of-Hearts by memory!
(Pony or otherwise) :)

paint job on your ponies
Lars I think it helps that the ponies are blank, I think that lends itself well to accept the paint I put on, giving it a nicer look. I usually work off of a picture unless it's a character like Daredevil, which I know pretty well, (Although I did forget to put the line on the boot.) To get pictures I either get the comic from my son's collection or I google it, then print up several pictures with different areas of concern. If I can't find great pictures I ask the board for help.
I first draw it out in pencil then go over it with a permanent fine tipped marker if I want the lines to show thru the paint. After I give it basic coats, I go back and fine tune it. To get the shadows, I bought a set of Pitt Manga pens that have about 10 shades of gray to black. I love those pens!!!!.
I'll try to remember to get pictures in progress.

I'm trying to get back into custom work after dealing with Dad's passing. Looking for opinions here: Should I light the cockpit of the Viper? It'll add weight and complexity to the project (and push back completion), but I can't escape the notion that a lighted helmet sitting on a figure's head in the cockpit would kick ass!

Since this picture was taken I've re-sculpted the pattern for the jacket since I didn't like the fit at the collar.

Wellllll, I was hoping I could get by with one of the small Christmas light sets available most anywhere this time of year, but preliminary tests aren't thrilling me too much. I may have to just buy some LED's and solder the bloody thing together from scratch.

For the lighting on the helmet you might look into Electroluminescent wire.

I've read about EL wire, but I've never used any. Do you have any experience with the stuff, Chris? The PDL I downloaded from CultTVman has a lot of information, and the fiberopticproducts website looks helpful, but I'm a bit apprehensive about trying something unfamiliar.
