"“Invisible”?

Who scripted that page?"

**

A stretch, perhaps, but "invisible" while housed?

Very saddened by this news.

Loved his work. My first exposure to him was a Captain America issue way back in the day.

My condolences to family and friends.

Eric Jansen: (Regarding the TwoMorrow's book, "Sal Buscema: Comics' Fast & Furious") "...I read this about a year ago, and it was great to hear about Sal's life and career in his own words.  It also contained a lot of great artwork, including some wonderful paintings he did.  (Who knew that Sal Buscema painted?!)..."

I actually sold that book on eBay just a week ago. It's a cool one!

Sad to learn of Sal Buscema's passing, and just before his birthday, too. May he rest in peace.

I was guessing the word was meant to be "invincible"?

Yeah Peter mentioned that too, and while it makes more
sense than "invisible", it's still weird usage. I don't
tend to think of inanimate objects as "invincible".

It was Mantlo, early in his ALPHA FLIGHT run. One of the few scenes that I liked in his entire run (well, I completely quit after over a year in), and it was more because of how Buscema handled it.

The first comic I bought as a kid was Hulk 178. My Hulk was Herb Trimpe’s. When Mr. Buscema took over it took many months (years?) for me to accept Sal’s Hulk. The longer I read his Hulk the more he became my Hulk artist. RIP

Yeah, In my opinion he was the definitive Hulk artist. When i think of the 'Hulk Smash' Hulk his artwork is always what comes to mind for me. There's an issue of Web of Spider-Man (Issue #7 I believe) that I think showed just how fearsome the Hulk could truly be.

I also loved how he followed up Walt's art on Thor. The Morlock Mutant Massacre issues he did were superb. Made me wish Sal could have illustrated an adaption of the Lord of the Rings. As I would have loved to have seen him do the Mines of Moria sequence, which these Thor issues always reminded me of.

And the almost all splash pages Midgard Serpent issue him and Walt did together was incredible. Plus I'll always remember the panel in #382 where Thor breaks Loki's arm with Mjolnir. Perfectly illustrated in a way that I can't even put into words.

I'm so sad that he's gone. My condolences to all his family and friends.

Ok, I just had to look up his peak output as either penciller or full artist. Using mikesamazingworld.com, I found some standouts:

1974 - 35
1975 - 38
1976 - 57
1977 - 47
1978 - 45
1979 - 51

This is insane! 200 issues in the 4 years from '76 though '79!! Yes, they were mostly 17-page issues, but he was easily maintaining 4 books a month for 4 years straight! He might be second only to Kirby on this stat!

I'll echo sentiments already expressed here when I say that
although I love many artist's renditions of the jade giant,
Sal's Hulk is what's imprinted in my head when I think
"Hulk". And the revelation of just how good he still was
in the age of the superstar artist when he took up drawing
Thor. He's right up there when I think of guys that
defined exactly what Marvel comics should look like.
