While there are more than a few flashes of "my" JB in that calendar image, does it *ever* look like the Romita-ish 70s Marvel that lives in my head!

Looking at those side-by-side Surfer images Dave Kopperman posted I am struck by something: one of the complaints about the Surfer book was that I didn’t make the space backgrounds COSMIC enough. Here, for the promotional version, they made them even LESS!

Looking at those groupings in order of prominence, I wonder what a similar list would look like today. X-Men in group 4?? And I’m personally offended on behalf of Sue and Hawkeye, they’re two of my favorites.

Spotted last night at a Barnes & Noble, the cover to this 2023 DK sticker book features the exhausted Savage Land Wolverine along with a JB She-Hulk:

I understand why they're on the cover, but man, Thanos and Venom just stick out like sore thumbs in that grouping. Like, they couldn't have put Dr Doom on that cover?

That “sticker anthology” cover is an all too common example of something I saw too many times. The job is handed off to the gnomes in Production who grab random images and paste them together with no consideration of their size and shape. The art is treated as nothing more than filler. (Not quite so egregious in this case as the cover that slapped together a bunch of my figures and included Iron Fist’s collar casting a shadow on the Torch’s flame trail!)
