By the time I'd become a reader, Shooter's term as EIC was in full swing and it's an era that still remains the standard against which I measure the entertainment and craft of mainstream comics - and even many art or independent comics. I recognize that his shifting rules and other aspects of his tenure sometimes made creative work difficult but I also have to look at the results - a line-wide high watermark for Marvel that I think objectively hasn't been hit since.
It's also the era where he wasn't writing monthly titles, so I missed much of that but genuinely enjoyed his writing, particularly on the maligned Secret Wars II and Star Brand.
