My 14 year old son is trying to work a comicbook of his own, and just now in frustration he said something about how it's hard to know what to write in the speech and thought balloons to make the story interesting, so I had him look without reading anything at ELSEWHEN #31 to see that (1) it's the art sells that the comic, and (2) there's "writing" (storytelling) in the art itself. The words are good but secondary.

"Wow. But I can't draw anything like that...!"

Neither could Mr. Byrne when he was 14.

"Okay, I'll keep trying."

Remember the old saw: we all have 10,000 bad drawings inside us, and we just have to keep drawing until we get them all out!

On the matter of storytelling, I’ve often said one of the artist’s principle jobs is to make the scripter unnecessary. Of course, this can lead to scripters who fill the page with redundant (and sometimes conflicting) verbiage just to make their presence felt.

That bottom panel is perfect.

Cyclops falling to the ground in agony... Sprite popping up from her seat on the couch... Oh, and thanks for today's glimpse of Storm. I'm still diggin' her new look.

Whoa, that flow of the action of that page is deceivingly sophisticated, how the movement of your eye across the page follows what's happening smoothly from the astral plane conflict to the reality of the X-Men's alarm at Scott's pain.

I agree, Ron. There have been advances in page and panel movement this
issue! Thanks JB!

Come on man…. I know you’re working through to get organized, but, you
worked so hard. I’m sure I’m not the only one that wishes you peace and
wellness.

For that, thanks. But that does not equate to a “rest”. My daily schedule will be exactly the same. As I said.

JB - over the course of your career, what's the longest period you've actually gone without producing pages?

Did I miss a post in this forum? Is Elsewhen’s daily publishing schedule
changing?
