For today's page, I really liked how Kurt's foot was gripping the flagpole even though he wasn't looking at it-- he just knew where his foot had to go and there it was. Feels like that's how an acrobat, in tune with his body at all times, would be operating.
That's one of the reasons I was so interested in Namor when I heard you were taking him on. How would you treat him and why? Would we root for him?
I'm a big Sub-Mariner fan, and appreciate the way JB addressed things like Namor's rages against the surface world and their eventual resulting legal ramifications.
Yeah, the ecological/environmental take was prescient, as was the notion that he ruled the largest civilization on the planet. Lots of "I never thought about it that way before" ....
Doctor Doom is my favorite villain, and JB is second only to Lee/Kirby handling him, in my view (and even then, it's nearly equal). I also like the shot of Nightcrawler jumping around.
Oh man, that second panel ... does anyone even do that any more? I've had to go to vintage European comics to get my fix ... Is this what other artists consider the "boring" stuff?

It's true many artists are more concerned with WHAT they are drawing than HOW they are drawing it. For me, every panel is an exercise in solving certain artistic "problems"--figuring out the best way to draw A, or B, or C. Which is not usually the case when drawing figures in skintight suits hitting each other.
I like the idea that certain villains will always reliably show up in a given year / 12 issues. The FF should always have one good Dr. Doom story in a year (at least), and a Galactus story, and an Annihilus story, and some Skrulls...
Maybe that's just harder to pull off now when stories aren't one to two issues, but four to six issues.
