Great closeup of Amanda! I love it! Amanda is one of the character that Mr. Byrne almost never drew although she was used later a lot more perhaps due to UXM Annual #4. It's a pity that Amanda was interrupted because it seemed as she was going to say/reveal something really important to Nightcrawler.
A small question: In the Elsewhen series the events from UXM Annual #4 with Amanda's revelation of her true identity to Nightcrawler has happened? In "normal" reality it happened before the Canadian adventure already referenced in the Elsewhen series but after Phoenix's funeral so it may be one of these things that we can't be sure how it went!

The shadow of the window across the bed in the upper right panel...

The down angle shot of the room at the bottom of the page...

Wow.

The shadow of the window across the bed in the upper right panel...

••

…is, of course, inaccurate, but I allowed myself a little artistic license for dramatic effect.

++++++++++++

The down angle shot of the room at the bottom of the page...

••

Down shots like that, especially from directly overhead, are among my favorite to draw. They are challenging, strictly from an "architectural" standpoint, and when figures are introduced they become even more so.

Back when he was editing FANTASTIC FOUR Carl Potts told me he'd shown a young artist a straight overhead shot I did of Sharon Selleck collapsed at the bottom of a phone booth, as a demonstration of the kinds of angles that can be used to liven up the storytelling. (One not included in Wally Wood's "25 Panels that Always Work".)

The art goes from strength to strength. Every panel is great to look at, but each in a different way. Love the boldness of the lines in the panels with Willy (on top of the points Wallace mentioned). Nice little detail with the pair of specs on the bedside table.

Great job on this issue, even though I want to get back to the all out action from earlier in the issue, I am still well engaged with your quieter moments. Each page has a panel or two of perspective mastery that blows my mind. You're hitting a very nice stride.

This series just may well be JB's 'Sgt Peppers' (without the pay, of course)

“Sgt Peppers” is widely considered to be The Beatles at the absolute peak of their creativity and subsequently their best album.

Some people rate Revolver above Sgt. Pepper's...

I was noticing how good a lot of the shadows are even before today's page. I might have have to pull out FF #203 (again).
