I had a ton of fun inking these pages. I especially get a kick out of inking JB's monsters. The thin snow lines with the contrast of the main characters really helped to give me a little more understanding of line variations.

Well done Paul. The contrast between Kitty, Colossus and the snowy background works really well. The different line weights you are placing on the close and far snow lines are doing the job of showing the depth of field. Great work on Kitty’s black costume silhouette. I always have to fight with my urge to add white lines around everything in an attempt to “show it all.” You have commendable restraint in this regard. Great job on the monsters. The textures come through well.

Seeing the latest monsters was exciting, I love all the weird mash ups of grasshoppers, bats, seahorses, birds of prey, and textures, from smooth metal like areas to corse and bumpy. And then there’re those finger nails from sharp to ragged and split, very unsettling. I spent the last two days on my off time inking this page up. It was so very fun to work on.

Thanks Philippe, I had some time and I love monsters. I often think about how quickly and yet finely the inkers in the field are able to work. With JB posting these each day of the week it feels a bit like a challenge: can you keep up? Nope! Life intrudes. But it sure is fun trying every few days.

Excellent work, Craig! I agree - there's something extra fun about inking John Byrne's monsters and aliens!

Great work Paul and Craig. You guys both did excellent work with creatures!! Paul... great line weights on the snow as well!! I do wish we could get larger resolution pics of people's inks. A while back, I uploaded individual panels so people could see the inks a little clearer.
I always hated when other inkers worked over John Byrne's pencils. Very few really knocked it out of the park. I loved Terry Austin as a kid, but his stuff was just a touch stiff. Karl Kesel did a good job and I loved Jerry Ordway's ink over Byrne... as a change of pace.
Now that I'm older and wiser, I can look at an inkers value and what they bring to a project, especially if I can see both the pencils and inks. I really disliked Giordano's inks on Man of Steel when I was younger... but now I really love the way he interpreted JB's pencils. I blame the printing at the time. lol
I love that John did this and then actually encouraged people to have fun inking his pages. Its a great tool to learn and/or practice inking. I really love this thread!!

More monsters?! And Wolverine! These pages really capture the excitement of the battle. The inking battle is a trial. I find I have to get to what I think is an end point and then put it away for a bit. It seems like there is a lot of clean up to do, and those outlines always demand more ink. Shane, I get what you mean about others inking. Seeing the pencils and then various inkers on this site is like looking at the work with tinted glasses, sometimes it is a really interesting effect. Like seeing two people at once. So, here’s another page I inked.

Choosing this page is just my excuse to ink Guardian. JB is such a natural with street clothes for characters - it just looks so normal for Logan to be wearing this!
