Well, lessee:
Hair's too long; insignia's not big enough; collar's too high; cape
doesn't drape over the shoulders right; hate the belt. I can live
with the colors and the hip-huggers, even though I'm not crazy about
them.
But for everybody's who's saying the guy's too skinny: Are we
looking at the same guy? He looks pretty muscular to me. In
fact, he looks more muscular to me than Reeve did in Superman The Movie.
Seriously, with a few alterations to the the suit and it's silhouette,
Routh would look great. The question is, will he inhabit the
character with as much force as Reeve did, and will it be a good
movie? These things will, as with all of Hollywood's comic book
flicks, have to be proven to me.
Hard and fast rule: All comic book movies suck until they prove they don't.

Don't like it.
I guess in Hollywood's mad rush to make this project look "different" they forgot what the character really looks like.
I also don't like the way that in all the Batman movies, new one included, the top doesn't close over his chest.

Keep something in mind, y'all:
When Jon Peters was still hands-on producer of this
movie, the first thing he told then-director Tim Burton
was, "I don't want him in those faggy tights."
(Peters also didn't want Superman to fly, but that's
off-topic.)
Knowing that, I'm breathing a sigh of relief that the
costume is as faithful as it is.
BUT--
This is Warner Bros. we're talking about here. Look
what they did to the Batman movie series. Do you
think they learned from their mistakes? Of course
they haven't!
They've got TOYS to sell. Action figures with identical
heads but different bodies, wearing different outfits.
Mark my words, this isn't the ONLY uniform
Superman will be wearing in this movie. Don't be
surprised if we see him dressed in black with a
silver version of the "S" symbol by the third act.

Oh yeah. The costume is fairly horrendus. The more I look at it, the less I like it. If you change the Shield, trunks, boots, neckline, cape and the color. It would be OK.
They guy in the suit. Not great but OK. He'll do.
We shall see in the end how it all works. sometimes those publicity shots look bad.

If I didn't know this was an official photo of the official actor in the official
costume from the new movie, I'd think this was just some dude with a
home made costume walking around WizardWorld. Sure, its a well-made
costume, it just doesn't look or "feel" like Superman should. I realize this
is just a press pic to show us what Routh looks like in costume... but
man, when you saw Reeve in costume, there was just a look in his eye -
that he WAS Superman... this guy looks like he's wondering what he'll
have for lunch. Why...why... WHY does Hollywood have to change
everything?! Batman in body armor, and now this.

Isn't it funny that when comics adapt movies, everything has to look, smell, sound and taste like the movie they are adapting. But when a movie adapts a comic book, the comic is just an inspiration or guide? Bullshit.

This goes in line with what JB said about not casting actors that LOOK like the character they are playing. This guy kinda has the bod, but it remains to be proven to me that he can pick up "The Mantle".

The first things that struck me as just bad are the small "speedos" ,
the emblem being too small and the "s" on the belt just doesn't work
for me either.
After reading the posts I do agree about the colors as well. I'd rather see the primary colors like in the comic.

I have to agree the costume does seem to reflect an alternative lifestyle to my mind and frankly I'm surprised those speedos aren't a thong.
The best Superman costume would be the one that Christopher Reeve had with George Reeves' costume's cape. I loved that cape when I was a kid.

Bullshit. ****** Yes, I am now recalling how Tim Burton got personally involved with the "Beetleguese" animated series, to be sure they "got it right". How sad that he could not find it in himself to show the same degree of respect for someone else's creation.
