Remember guys...
Movies today are about merchandising - and it's a lot easier to account
for the merchandising of Superman Returns when the characters,
particularly Superman, has a distinctive look on the products.
I don't know what kind of deal Warner made with the director and actors,
but if you remember from the first Batman movie, both Burton and
Nicholson received part of the merchandising profits - so movie tie-ins
had to be destinctive in appearance from then-current licensed Batman
merchandise.

I like it, it could of been better certainly, but it looks cool, I would of like
to seen it more accurate, but I'm gonna wait to pass judgement once I see
the movie.

That costume is awful for many reasons, but the worst is the
color. The primary colors are essential. It's familiar to us old
fogeys and young kids respond to bright colors.
Why do you think they changed the colors? I think they're
embarrassed. They don't want a brightly lit hero, they want a
muted, watered down "cool" version of Superman. I think we
are going to see a lot of costume changes as a result of the X-
Men movies. I am worried that the success of those films will
cast a long shadow on future costume design.

It's certainly debatable whether 25 is too young to play Superman
(personally, I think it's just right) but do you seriously want a 48
year old Superman?

It's not age that matters, but how old you look. Reeve looked
physically older at the time than Routh does now, even though we're
talking about the same chronological age.

I think that Sandy Collora made a few very distinct points with his "Dead End" and "World's Finest" (as unpolished as WF was).
1. Traditional costumes work.
2. Casting people that look the part works.
3. Sticking to the characters as defined in the comic books work.
4. From what I've read, the reaction of fans was overwhelming - they loved it and wanted more.
But, as mentioned in other links, it all about marketability. How many toys and how much junk can we sell when it's all said and done and damn the fans.
Sounds a lot like M*rv*l...

Shameful costume. Only hope here is that they put that pic out to measure opinion and get a feel for any changes they may want to make. Here's hoping a they make several.

Yes, Eric, and Routh doesn't look old enough. He just doesn't look like he has the gravitas to play Superman.
And Matt -- I loved Collora's World's Finest trailer, but I wasn't thrilled with the squiggly, Lois & Clark-style Superman S-symbol. The Superman Returns "S" actually looks better, if too small.

I don't agree, Jason. What Collora gave us in World's Finest was a Superman of the proper size and build wearing a real Superman costume. All of it is better than what the official Superman Returns photo shows us.

A friend of mine sent me the following comment on the Singer/Routh costume. I thought it was pretty funny...
Lois: Hey, Clark, what's under your shirt?
Clark: What do you mean?
Lois: You know... that beveled pentagon under your shirt?
Clark: Really, Lois, you can be so silly sometimes.
Guy's got a point.
