Reading through an old thread, I found this question I asked JB back in 2010:
ME: Is there a character you wished you would have gotten around to using while you were on X-Men? (I remember you saying you wished you would have had the chance to use Super Skrull during your FF run...) •• JOHN: I was sorry we didn't find a way to use the Vanisher. Seriously! As a kid I found him so CREEPY! ---
If ELSEWHEN were to happen, maybe a Vanisher story would finally be possible.

If Mr.Byrne would use the Vanisher, would he use the ugly original costume?
Perhaps, it would be good if the Vanisher wears the black "Darkforce" costume from Bizarre Adventures #27 (the comic was published post-death of Phoenix although chronologically it goes before X-Men #125).

I've always said that one of JB's super powers is to make terrible costumes actually look pretty cool.

The biggest challenge of the Vanisher would be coming up with something really threatening to do with him! Also, avoiding a connection with Nightcrawler—something I could easily imagine Chris having slipped into a line of dialogue I didn’t see until after publication!

"Obi-Wan never told you who your father was, did he." "He told me you killed him." "No, Kurt. I am your father!!" "Nooooooo, that's impossible!!!"
It would be subtle like that.

Because I'm nutz...Can't stop myself from thinking ahead. Or back, in this case. A scene that's been in the back of my mind since, oh, 1980. So now I am doing it. Third issue? Fourth? Some time after the first Sentinel story. That's where all the rubble comes from on the second page. Pencils just keep getting tighter and tighter. . . .

Amusing—well, to me anyway—to think there’s no way I could have drawn the first panel in 1980. I’d no idea what a standard issue New England train station looked like, and no source for reference.
