Just realized I mispronounced CB’s name in that interview. Guess that scuttles the whole thing!

...I dread the fate of Jean Grey...••• You shouldn’t! * * *
It's funny -- 20-some pages of a new X-Men story by JB, and the thing that is even more exciting to me is this exchange. Just the thought of seeing the characters I grew up with back and treated in character and even treated well makes me hope even more that this series materializes. It gives me hope for Cyclops, my favorite character under JB's run, who, like Jean, has been chipped away at for years and years.

If this becomes a series, there’s a whole generation of readers who are going to have to get used to the fact that Scott Summers is NOT a “dick,” even tho it was during this vintage that Chris laid the groundwork for him being so.

Yes, please! The desecration of Cyclops’ character is one of the biggest and most annoying missteps in the entire history of the series.
Scott was the brooding, no-nonsense tactician who represented Xavier’s dream out in the field. That gave him a different vibe from Captain America or Mr. Fantastic.
Then, along came Wolverine, and various writers made him look like the cool new Bad Boy at Scott’s considerable expense. Personally, I could never imagine Wolverine being a serious threat to Scott and Jean’s relationship. It works much better as a case of classic Marvel romantic angst, but with Wolverine’s feelings for Jean being unrequited, rather than an actual love triangle.
And wires in my brain cross and short-circuit at the thought of Emma Frost and Scott being an item, much less Scott actually cheating on Jean with her. Ugh.

This. In fact, it was clear before JB left the series that Wolverine also could not imagine himself being a serious threat in that way.
The idea of Emma Frost being a love interest to Scott is about as believable as Scott falling in love with a broken rake.

Oh yes please!!!!
Scott the master tactician Scott the man who inspires and gives loyalty Scott the man WHO DOES NOT CHEAT ON HIS MISSUS
That Marvel even brought in the young version of Scott and still failed to rectify what they did to him is a travesty to the character.

I never understood where that relationship between Wolverine and Jean came from. Apparently before Phoenix's death Wolverine had some feelings for Jean but was also in love with Mariko. And suddenly, during that "Inferno" crossover it seemed Jean had feelings for Wolverine... That surprised me. I wonder if I was alone...

The Wolverine/Jean thing was a classic example of giving (some) fans what they thought they wanted. Wolverine was “cool” and Jean was “hot”, so a lot of people wanted to live vicariously thru their relationship. A relationship which, “realistically” made no sense. Especially after Mariko was introduced. (And let’s not even THINK about what was done to her!)
