I shall make the Hulk a full length figure about twelve to fourteen inches in height that should be big enough.

And there's just a lack of that lost expression in Kirby's Hulk, achieved in the miss-matched eyes and that massive open-mouthed underbite, the look that renders him both terrifying and sympathetic simultaneously (just like, as JB said, Frankenstein's monster). ++++++++++++ I have a question about Kirby's Hulk--was the intent really that he had mismatched eyes? I've always taken it as one eye being more open than the other at times, which gives him that "lost", sad look. The Hulk may be brutish, but it never even occurred to me that he might be deformed and asymmetrical.

Hulk is merely snarling there, which causes on eye to close more than the other.

That Tyrannus Robot would make an interesting figure... That "battering ram" coming out of it's chest is a great touch! For some reason, when I read the Hulk's dialogue on that Kirby page that JB posted, I start hearing Ben Grimm's voice. Did Stan Lee switch the Hulk to a more brutish, third-person dialogue after the FF came on the scene?

The FF predate the Hulk by almost a year. Johnny Storm is seen reading HULK 1 in FF 5.But both Ben and the Hulk started out with that classic "Bah!" kind of speech rhythms. Then, as the Thing became less brutish, the Hulk became moreso.

That issue 6 of the original Hulk series may be my all-time favorite Hulk story for a lot of reasons. Kirby was hitting a wicked stride with the character. I loved the Banner-as-brute Hulk, intelligent and dangerous to EVERYONE. Banner actually controls/triggers his changes with his Gamma Ray gun. The Hulk fights a cool robot, suffers torture to protect Betty like any good monster in love, and pulls a Biblical Samson brings down the house against his mirror opposite, beauty-boy Tyrannus. Probably one of the most perfect comic book issues ever made.

I don't see anything really wrong with Batgirl. It is part of the "Cover Girls" thing, so she's doing something kind of cute and having a cheescake whoops moment. Looks fun.

It looks cute in the drawing but -- as is often the case -- somehow it's lost in translation.

That Batgirl totally screws up the story that's going on in the sketch. The rope is supposed to be tangled and the bat in the sketch appears to be real(?), explaining Batgirl's expression. The statue, to me, is a big FAIL.Not that it was that great of a concept to begin with. Why whimsical? Are the others in the series like that, or is Batgirl the only "joke" character? It almost seems like she appears incompetent standing next to the other woman...
