Being locked in battle with the God of War and his undead soldier minions doesn't mean a girl can't look her best, Marc. She'll still kick his ass!
... and don't anyone tell Diana I referred to her as a 'girl' because I don't want her kicking mine next.

The one thing that really bugs me is that, even in person, it still looks like a statue of Wonder Woman vs. a bust of Ares. The details on the base are awesome, the different soldiers' skeletons are really cool, and the flame effects are a great blend of that translucent resin and painted porcelain, but simply put, Ares doesn't show any leg. None. If I could break him cleanly off the base he'd literally be a bust from the belt up, and there would be nothing left of him on the base. Then I could get a Hades bust if they made one, take him off his base, and put him in place of Ares and it would look just the same. Hell, I could do it with my Darkseid bust!
Can't say that for the Batman vs. Killer Croc piece, and even though Croc is easily twice the size of Ares he still shows enough of his pants/jeans coming out of the sewer base to look as if the rest of his is somewhere in my table top.

Just how many suits of armour will there be in Iron Man 2? If the Mark IV has the circular chest reactor then there is the briefcase armour and the one with the amost diamond shaped chest reactor. Throw in War Machine etc and this looks like armour overload.
I saw an underwater version and something else on the toy shelves already.

I know there's a Batgirl vs. Catwoman set coming out this year but that one bugs me even more than the Ares bust thing - I can't stand that they're posed in the air on their capes. So I won't be picked that one up... but I'm hoping the line continues with Green Lantern, Flash, and others getting a chance to fight their rogues.
I was really surprised too that the Wonder Woman vs. Ares is out of 1000 pieces. The Batman/Croc and Superman/Darkseid are both out of 2500.

There's a nice Harryhausen-vibe with all those skeleton soldiers coming out of the ground, Brad! Like the detail on that WW I soldier's helmet.

I saw that one, too. I looked a little closer at the packaging and it read concept series, so I don't think it will be in the movie. There were also a comic and movie series.

That Wonder Woman statue baffles me; it's a wonderful sculpt, but why not just do Ares as a full figure? The entire piece was already 85%-ish done -- why not just do Ares' legs?

That's my problem with it! The Croc statue is HUGE compared to this one. Ares' upper torso area is the same size as Superman's or Batman's from their statues. It's not like he's made really big and imposing the way some artists draw him - he's a regular sized guy here! He's only "taller" than Wonder Woman because of the base - even if he had legs, he wouldn't be that much taller than she is, he'd have to be standing on a base to be that high up.
Superman vs Darkseid is two FULL STATUES over a fairly simple (but appropriate) base. The Batman vs Croc is a full Batman and a HUGE 2/3 of Croc busting out of a sewer. One of Croc's arms is bigger than Ares' torso!
Yes, the base of skeletons is nice, but they could have been coming out of a flat base with a full Ares standing toe-to-toe with Wonder Woman. What is Ares even coming out of? I'm looking at the thing and I can't figure out if it's a mini volcano, a stalagmite, or what. It's a rocky structure with skeletons coming out. Are they fighting in a cave? Like I said above, if they make a Hades bust, I think that'd be more appropriate.
Still, it's a beautiful piece. Diana's face is awesome, the details on the soldiers are done well (a Viking, a Crusader, a WWI German, and a Roman centurion... hey wait. No Ancient Greek?) and Ares looks really good. I just wish I could see the rest of him.
