So, alas, one of my all-time favorite characters will remain unrepresented in my figures/statues collection.

I think these guys got it right...

Why does that Bobble-Head get it right? Because that company wants it to be recognizably Doom, not recognizably an artist's work!

The wrecking crew looks awesome.  That Dr. Doom showed earlier almost looked like the Terminator - definitely not a good sculpt.

Yes!  Are you saying that an artist can't create a sculpt that is recognizably his while staying on model?  That takes alot more talent in my book.

Brad - (boy it feels weird typing that) - An artist can be on model and maintain a personal style, one need only look at Kirby's Doom vs. Byrne's Doom to see that's true. However, most of the artists the sculptors base their busts/statues on are the kinds of people who draw it ONLY in their own style, with little thought to staying on model. One need only look at the majority of Doom statues and busts to see THAT'S true too.

Brad (you're right...it does feel weird)...I'm not trying to knock any of their skills of the sculptors.  You're right...they're capturing the Doom they were trying to capture.  My problem is that they didn't try to capture a Doom that was on model.
