Close-up of the Doom head. Not sure what is going on with that.

Maybe it was based on Gene Colan's version!

••

Not even close. Gene's at least has the recognizable configuration of Doom's mask -- rectangular eyes, triangular nose, rectangular mouth with "mouse trap" inside. As noted by Bill Mimbu, the Kotobukiya Doom looks like a traditional Samurai mask.

So, alas, one of my all-time favorite characters will remain unrepresented in my figures/statues collection. (Except for the Eaglemoss version. That's tiny enough that the off-model mask is not immediately apparent.)

That's Jim Lee's fault...for some time, some people have adopted the changes he did on Heroes Reborn.

It's amazing how when a current "hot" artist decides to change a character's decades established look, all the other artists have to follow like sheep & do the same thing...

1. Cap with the "utility belt", overexaggerated metal "feathers", lines on the sides of the mask, and distinct separation of the neck & shirt.

2. Black Widow with that awful widow symbol on her belt.

3. Modern artists drawing the classic Iron Man faceplate with red on the sides & non-curving widow's peak.

4. 10 foot bowl haircut Hulk.

Etc, etc...

I call it "staying-on off-model".

You didn't like the 2007 Marvel Legends one?

edit :oh wait didn't notice the "D" belt, hmm though if you swapped heads from the first ML doom, that might get everything "right"

Sci-Fi Japan has an extensive photo gallery of the Japanese tokusatsu (special effects) related merchandise at Winter - Wonder Fest 2010 .

I'd really like to own that 1/100 scale Atragon, but it's way beyond my budget and available display space.  That, plus those full-motion Toho daikaiju puppets as well.

JB, any thoughts about arming your Robby The Robot with that Oxygen Destroyer replica?
