They appear to be stepping on each other's feet because they were originally drawn as individual characters, not as a group. DC photoshopped the images together poorly.

••

Obviously. And needlessly. And the image, as a result, is still FAR from "fine".

(And this despite someone in the production department "fixing" Neal's drawing, and adding in, clumsily, the utility belt the Joker had taken from Batman several pages earlier.)

+++++++++

Wasn't that only in reprints/trades? I've think I've seen scans of the original printing, and I believe the belt is missing there.

While adding another Polar Lights 1/1000 scale NCC-1701 Enterprise kit to my fleet, I also grabbed Round 2's relaunch of AMT's UFO Mystery Ship (aka AMT's Strategic Space Command ship Leif Ericson):

http://www.round2models.com/models/amt/ufo-mystery-ship

Unlike AMT's 1970's version, Round 2 had gone back and added a few of the parts from the old Leif kit, plus brand new decals that depict it as either an alien pirate ship or it's original configuration as the SSC Yuri Gagarin (same class as the Leif).  The Leif's clear red engines are not included, since the original tooling for them has been lost, but there are some after-market dealers that have been producing those in clear resin.

Damn... I wish I'd quit writing "Liefeld" first instead of "Leif"...

OMG -- I had that AMT UFO Mystery Ship model back in the day!  Forgot all about it!  Quite a blast from the past when I clicked through and saw what it was!

Thanks for sharing -- VERY cool!

You're welcome, John!

A few of us old timers remember it first as this:

And, the Round 2 blog had an interesting entry on finding the old molds to the UFO ship:

As I mentioned the last time that one was posted, I sincerely doubt the "necessity" of having her skirt blowing so far to the side we almost get a crotch shot.

Really like the Wicked Witch Cookie Jar. My step mother would love that. She's a big Wizard of Oz fan.

I think some of you folks need to refine your definitions of "fat." The Alex Ross figures aren't "fat", unless by "fat" you mean "mature." I think judging by Ross' interests, he sees his superheroes through the eye of television, George Reeves and Adam West, who weren't exactly idealized superhero bodies but actors/idealized males of a different era.

I'm not defending Ross, but I like that he doesn't make the heroes look like WB actor auditions for "Smallville" either.

Compared to Neal Adams Batman, I reckon Ross' figures are "fat"ter, husky, beefy or however you want to put it. I don't care for Ross' Batman, either, or most of the other representations because of the "realism" involved in the costumes and such. But I always believed Ross' Superman was pretty solid, and age-appropriate (late 30s-plus years old).

I don't agree with the term "fat" to describe his figures either.  I wish I was that fat instead of the real fat that I am.
