Don,

I use a handful of different brands of paint.  Polly S and Games Workshop paints are the two main types.  Lately, I've been buying acrylics at my local craft shops.  The quality is the same, the prices are lower, the selection is MUCH better and the amounts you get in each "jar" is greater.

Check these two brands out if you get the chance, I've had good results with them so far.

I couldn't tell you exactly which color I used in any one spot.  I always start with a really dark base coat and work up at least two or three layers of successively brighter highlights.  I didn't do that for Cap's red portions as much as I really wanted him to stand out, so his darker shaded areas were kept at a minimum.  The only place they really stand out is between his fingers and a few spots on the boots that the camera didn't pick up.

When I get started on She-Hulk, I'm going to try using paint remover for the first time so I'm not just adding several coats of paint.  I'm hoping for the best and I'll share my results.

Best of luck to you!

Mr. Fantastic, Yellowjacket and Sandman just arrived from Midtown, yea!  Reed looked like he went toe-to-toe with Sandman on the whole trip, his face has a very muddy paint job and will need to be cleaned up a bit.  Other than that, I am well pleased!

Nice job, Ryan !

Do you apply the paint directly on the original paint, or do you take it off ?

How do you take off the paint ? What kind of paint do you apply ?

I really need to give the Vision the JB's touch. I have never been fond of the character until JB changed his look. Making him look like a ghost was a good idea.

Richard, all of your questions are answered three posts above yours :^)

Redoing the Vision sounds like a good idea.  He'd definitely need the original paint removed first, though.

I haven't seen anything on TV about the collection, didn't even know they were doing advertising like that.

There's a Michael's not too far from me. Time to put my rusty artistic skills to the test, I think.

I wouldn't take it, Don.  I'm my own worst critic and I'd never be happy with the results.  The shield on mine looks pretty bad. I haven't been able to stay inside the lines on the stripes no matter how careful I am.

Hey Ryan, did the paint remover work ok? I'm afraid of damaging the lead underneath but I didn't exactly ace chemistry in HS so maybe I'm worrying for nothing... I seem to remember Grim (Steve) Reaper said that he used Nitromors to strip the paint (& to be careful because it will chew up the base)

Not that I would use it in an enclosed space or without a chemical mask - or - for 3-4 hours in one go....

but while searching for Nitromors, I found a British Medical Journal article of case involving Nitromors (methylene chloride) exposure... (be careful with this stuff - brain damage from one 3-4 hour exposure is a pretty scary thought)

I'll probably give the remover/acetone a go this weekend, Mark.  I'll let you know.  I'm just going to set it up outside and walk away for a couple hours.
