Nice Mysterio - one of Gene's 'conventionless convention sketches,' I presume?

The COLD WAR cover is fantastic - excellent buy, Paul!

One of the fascinating things about the COLD WAR trade paperback is the pencils that are featured for one of the issues.  The pencils look more like breakdowns compared to the tighter, more detailed pencils I'm accostomed to seeing.  I'm amazed at what was inked "live" on the page - there is an energy to the art that I feel when I read the book, and it is also there in the cover art Paul posted.

I kept the layouts on the COLD WAR issues deliberately looser than what I usually give myself for pencils, precisely to keep the energy level up. I wanted the inks to be kind of "raw", as befitted the storyline, and the rough pencils seemed like a good start.

Here are a couple of pieces I picked up recently:I finally have a page
featuring the Silver Surfer (full figure) by Big John. I have one other page
from the book but it is just the back of the Surfer's head. I loved the GN
with John drawing all splash pages, I understand it was alot more
challenging then John first thought. But made all the better with Stan "the
man" Lee writing all the dialog.

Judgement Day GN page 42 by John Buscema

I think it is an unused prelim for the Comic Book Makers Book, and shows
the Joe Simon & Jack Kirby team's greatest creations. I like seeing artists
self portraits with their creations.

That Surfer page is magnificent! Thanks for sharing!
Is Joe Simon the artist on the bottom piece you posted?
