Zorro reminds me of Howard Chaykin's art.

•••

It's very reminiscent of Alex Toth's work on the character, and Toth was a big influence on Chaykin.

Thanks JB. I wasn't aware of the influence of Alex Toth. I'm going to do some internet searching now.

If you have not previously seen Toth's ZORRO work, you are in for a major treat!!

Amusing note:

I was showing my step-daughter my ever-increasing collection of DAN DARE originals, and noticed something. The character of Sir Hubert Guest, the Controller of Space Fleet, was modeled on Frank Hampson's father, and extensive photo reference was used by Hampson, as well as the various artists who ghosted for Hampson, and who later drew the strip under their own names.

These two panels are from stories that were published a few years apart:

Just received some artwork from Enrique Romero. The 1st American
Edition reprints of AXA (back in the 80s) was my first exposure to the
series. In one of the other books reprinting AXA was a piece featuring
Romero in his studio showing AXA some of the newspaper strips he draw
of her. This image inspired me to commission an updated version with
Romero a bit older still drawing AXA (she of course is timeless), she is
flirting with him. Also includes Modesty Blaise, who doesn't look to
thrilled with the attention Romero is getting from AXA. Romero did a
fantastic job. I was also lucky enough to buy the original I first saw in the
book. Enjoy.

Romero had done another commission for me previously for my iBod
theme. Here is a link to it

Love Giordano's inks and I like how the telephone cord delineates some of that last panel.

Nice page Lloyd.  I have to ask-- do you display them all?

Another great page. I love the idea of Batman and Superman working on a case together in the Batcave.

Bill, I have a couple of floating frames in my office that I periodically
switch out so that every piece gets displayed. It's certainly a
conversation starter!
