I didn't think the likeness was as good on Kirk. Not good at all, in fact.

I gotta tell you JB, I saw that sculpt as Jim was sculpting it, and I have no idea what they did to the face, because it honestly wasn't like that when Jim finished it.   Whoever molded that thing REALLY warped the heck out of it.

I tell you, no joke, I saw with my own eyes how Jim labored on this piece, and nothing more than the likeness ... he worked harder on this piece and the Spock than anything else I've ever seen him do work on.

Didn't you have a hand in the Alpha Flight figure series of figures years ago?

••

I did illustrations for the packaging, but had nothing to do with the creation of the actual figures.

There's a new Kirk bust that's coming out… that doesn't do too bad a job of Kirk's face.

••

Can't say I agree.

Also, with the hem of the tunic forming such an obvious and natural break, I cannot imagine why they went for that black diaper look!!

Pretty good -- but to my eyes still somehow. . . off.

I do wish they made the figure from Toth's design.

Something like this? I think JB missed a couple of parts. Not a bad color scheme. And I think the arrow doesn't shout to make us look at the crotch!

The Kirk head sculpt above looks very much like Shatner in some angles and less so in others. It's a very good effort, though.

William, where did you find that Jack of Hearts figure? He looks great. Thanks.

HobbyLink Japan is having a sale on quite a few diecast toys, including Max Factory's Big-O, and Bandai's Chogokin Buzz Lightyear...

[HLJ Sale Link]

*sigh*...  That Big-O is tempting, but I've already got the Bandai version I'm happy with.  I may have to pick up another HoiHoi-San since her sword snapped.

EDIT - Aw, what the hell...  For that discount, getting another Megadeus.  Gave in to will of Landau Landru.

EDIT 2 - And that Max Factory Big-O has sold out.

"Pretty good -- but to my eyes still somehow. . . off."

My own opinion on that unpainted Kirk/Shatner sculpt:  It looks a little too chiseled.  Shatner in his TOS prime was indeed a good-lookin' guy, but his features were a little softer, a tad rounder.

But still, as Kirk sculpts go, pretty darned close!
