This looks so much better and is the utility belt that we all know and love:

••

As I recall, it was Frank Miller who brought in the pouches, with DARK KNIGHT/YEAR ONE. And that's closing on 25 years ago.

Alas, a couple of "generations" of fans really don't know anything but the pouches!

If one looks at the utility belt above; it shows sleekness, unencumbered and stealth.  Everything Batman is supposed to be.  So, why would anyone accept the big heavy, cumbersome and non-stealthy  pouches?  Strange.

I really don't have a huge problem with changing how Batman's utility belt is divided up into sections (the capsule belt still being the best-so why mess with it). It's the bizarre thickness to these "sections" that amazes me. And if the entire belt is made up of these thick pouches, it looks like batman is wearing a kids floaty....

Funny, when Batman lost the yellow oval and the capsule belt, I thought "HOW COOL". Being that I was probably 13 and tired of the same ol Batman. I also thought it was very "Golden Age" to lose the yellow oval. Sigh. Now, I just want the 1982 Batman back.

Along with the 1982 DC Universe... as drawn by Garcia Lopez...

Although, this Joker figure from the same Batman Legacy line is kinda nifty.

I thought the pouches started with the TV show, then went to the comics(or vice versa) before Miller's books.

I like the belt either way. Pouches are cool, as long as that don't look like
that ^

I've always liked the overall quality of the DC Universe Classics line but have yet to start buying them.  I'm a little late to the party considering wave 18 is soon to be released.  But I don't know if I'm going to be able to resist:

I REALLY like the El Dorado figure.  There just aren't enough Mexican super-heroes in general but I always really liked this character from the cartoon.  Done realistically with a nice sculpt like this, the potential I saw from the simplistic Super Friends cartoon really hits home for me.  Black Vulcan and Apache Chief are very nice too.  Samurai is sculpted well but I never cared for him for some reason.

They first appeared on the TV show, as I said. But I do not recall seeing them in the comics before Frank.

Bill Mimbu - I'm very curious about this Wonder Festival in Japan. It's all garage kits, right? Bandai, Marmit, etc...are not a part of it are they? Can you give me links to sites that heavily feature characters that American fans would enjoy? I'm thinking anything Godzilla, Ultraman, Super Robots, Space Giants, Johnny Sokko, etc...If these Japanese sculptors are producing such beautiful kits, I'd like to get them exposed on my site, www.statuemarvels.com

Thanks!

Al

Oh no he didn't!....Randy Bowen is developing a new Thor Statue with a spinning hammer! He has posted pics of the WIP with or without & is asking for us to vote. For me, it's an easy choice --- Spinning Hammer!

The effect of the spinning hammer is very cool, but it looks . . . wrong somehow -- it seems like you should be able to see his forearm and fist, with the "spin" coming from the way he's holding on to the strap at the end of the handle.

EDITED TO ADD:

THIS is the image I was thinking of:

As noted by Randy Bowen in the thread, Thor's forearm and fist would
be centered in the spin. It looks wrong because those pieces are
missing.
