I was noticing on my Captain Mar-vel minimate how much I hated the fact that they painted his emblem gold. It totally killed the value contrast/readability of his emblem against the red & blue of his costume. Sucked it right in, and what was normally visible from a distance was gone.Same with his nega-bands.
Why do folks think this is an improvement? Even if something should actually be gold- if it doesn't read, or register as a familiar site to comic readers, just keep it yellow, or a lighter metallic yellow...

I read years ago on a site devoted to customizing statues and action-figures that the way to make the best looking "gold" for characters isn't to use gold coloured paint, but to use two layers. One of silver, and overtop a layer of translucent yellow. It looks more comic accurate, but still has a nice metallic look.

John - The quote function on Statue Marvels is a necessary evil. In a perfect world, I'd love if folks would delete the pics from the quotes. There is nothing more annoying than when someone posts a GIANT image (or sometimes several) & then multiple posters quote the image(s) over & over! We "get" it already! Other than that, I don't mind quotes. It makes it much easier to follow long running conversations. What I try to do when quoting is to delete the "fat" and only use that which I am responding. Unfortunately, most people don't think about the economy of quoting & just quote it all!

John - I understand that you were just doing your job & illustrating the Ghost Rider bike that was being used at the time, but if it gives you any satisfaction, know that the little boy, that was me in the 1970s bought that issue of Daredevil off the spinner rack and fell in love with Ghost Rider & that bike because of your talent! Believe me, the kid I was back then was very disappointed to discover that the art in Ghost Rider's own title wasn't anywhere near as good. I never bothered with the character again, until your pal, Roger Stern, along with Bob Budiansky crafted the best run of Ghost Rider that Marvel has ever produced.

Silver has a lustrous surface, while chrome is more of a mirror finish. Reflections are much more clearly defined in chrome than in silver. As I have noted from time to time, if the Silver Surfer was rendered as chrome, in space he would be practically invisible!
Like the silver protocol droid in Star Wars?

Hell yeah, Al!!!! Huge fan of Budiansky GR. ***************************************************** Yeah...it really irks me that so many Ghost Rider fans are unfamiliar with the treatment of the character by Stern/DeMattias, and Budiansky. The last 10 issues of the original run of Ghost Rider blow away everthing previous & after.

personally I LOVE the quote function. For me, it makes it so much easier to follow the conversation and to know who is responding to whom.
nor do I mind the reposting of pictures either (unless it takes up your bandwidth or something).
to each his own I guess
edit,.. this is actually a good example of what I mean,.. someone would have to do some serious digging to find this particular line of conversation within this thread because, though I included your quote, I didn't add your name.

Not a fan of that bike! I only drew it because I was staying on model!

I find that so interesting JB. It's not the first time you've commented about not liking something (or not being a fan of, or not in agreement with) something you've done in the past.
The interesting thing is that so many of those things are part of the reason why so many fell in love with your work.
I'm curious, can you share some of the things you did come up with or LOVED from back in the day?
