JB(or anyone) how gradual was the change from black to blue in regards to Spider-Man's costume?Was the color change ever referenced in the books either way?•• No specific reference was made to a CHANGE, as such. You can see it happen, tho, by looking at the covers, HERE. From the first issue, Ditko is already diminishing the amount of black on the costume, as well as simplifying the webbing pattern. A few issues where a lighter blue is used really points up the difference, too. By the time of Ditko's departure, the blacks are gone almost entirely. (I have an original page from issue 37, and there are no blacks at all on the costume in the two panels in which Spider-Man appears. This is really emphasized by how much black there is in all the OTHER panels, with characteristic Ditko lighting.)
