You are spliting hair John.
By the way, what I meant earlier on this thread was that the Thor on the picture I posted was the only true version for my eyes and I could barely associate it to the statue you posted.

A big problem with the armored Thor is that he is so GENERIC. When dealing with pre-existing names and even characters, it is necessary to trademark a DISTINCTIVE LIKENESS. Marvel cannot stop anyone else from using the mythological Thor, as I demonstrated in FOURTH WORLD. But they CAN protect their distinct portrayal. What's really distinct about the armored version?

But it's Marvel who have allowed that change and they must like it!

If you like the statue, it's fine, enjoy it.
It just doesn't ring any bell for me. I have the same problem with many (unnecessary) redesigns like Spider-man white and black costume. In term of design, it was OK but I couldn't relate to the (same) character anymore, although I must admit it' wasn't just because of the look. At times the character drifted too far from its root.

I think JB just brought up an excellent point - I can go out tomorrow and make a comic with Thor as a character in it, and he could look pretty much exactly like the current Marvel version, since all things considered the armor, cloak, etc are all fairly generic Norse clothing.
Honestly, even characters like the Winter Soldier, the new Steve Rogers uniform, etc are all fairly generic guy in military outfit with straps and pouches. I wasn't joking in that other thread about the Avengers - Steve Rogers looks like Tom Tresser, he's just some agent guy.
Superheroes not only need to look like superheroes because that's what they are, but they need to look like superheroes to be distinct. If I can watch the 13th Warrior again and the current appearance of Thor could blend into the background, there's something wrong.
