 | | | In a similar vein...me too. Although I never aspired professionally, JB's art inspires---and re-kindled my inner artist after 35 years.

All of this...ELSEWHEN...it's pure magic. Nothing else like it exists. The number of attempts of artistic endeavors that have tried to put the lightning back in the bottle after it had escaped is legion---but so is the number of failures. This is the singular success story I can name. By all rights, he shouldn't still be able to do this. It proves we all have souls, because it speaks directly to it.

Over the years, JB has had leveled at him criticisms for his unwillingness to compromise. The world sashays this way and that, twisting with the latest fads---but he stood true, un-moving and loyal to his love of the early comics and their characters. Fidelity like that is epic. I dare say none of us will ever know what it's cost him on a personal level, but here we are---all reaping the benefits. Just consider this past year alone. Which of us are willing to make the sacrifices he does---to produce a page of art every day, and then give it away for free?

Thank you John Byrne. There is so much you've done that inspires me.

Wolverine’s “empty opera gloves” flopping around are more disturbing every panel. Trying to get my head around what (if any) control he has over the metal remnants, and just how much stitching will be needed to stretch the meat back over the skeleton....

 | Magneto ones are incredible...and JB is so
good at let us understand what just
happened without showing it : the
remaining Magneto just had his helmet back
and...the dead one has no brain activity
 anymore...so X can't "see" them anymore.
 Hats off, Master.

I swear that I can see the cover of this issue... mostly with the (very positive) bombast not quite covering up the art....

ALL-OUT ACTION ISSUE! This is the one you've waited for, true believer! TWIN MAGNETOS! Angel vs Angel! Cyclops vs Cyclops! The power of Pablo! The fate of Kitty Pryde! All this - and THE IMPERIAL GUARD!
Gods, this makes me feel good! Thanks again, Mr. Byrne! |

This one issue has as much story as pretty much any three comics on the shelves these days. For some writers, the alt-Magneto story alone would have been a 12-issue mega-series with multiple crossovers and spinoffs...

Remember, “decompression” means “we give you less per issue”.
