Couple of false starts there, altho the splash page is still pretty much where I’d want to start this, with flashbacks filling in some of the action.

Mr. Byrne, in your brain, does this take place on the same Earth as Batman/Captain America?

Hard to believe that splash page is seventeen years old. That would put it among the first things I drew after the move from Fairfield (2005).

Interesting to see others ink the figures. We've Mike Zeck on Captain America, George Perez on Wonder Woman, and Kevin Nowlan on the Sub-Mariner. I'm partial to Byrne inks over Byrne, but it is fun to see the others.

And more Nowlan over Byrne would be fantastic, as well!

Oh wow, that would have been amazing! I remember when his son inked your silent Enemy Ace story. It looked so much like his dad's work. An Enemy Ace series would have been another dream series done by you as far as my tastes go.
Incidentally do you remember the Neal Adams/Joe Kubert work on that one Enemy Ace story? Star Spangled War Stories #144. Just gorgeous.
Edited to add: I forgot Adams/Kubert job was in the Joe Kubert Enemy Ace Artist Edition.
