Always appreciated the "rules" in play when depicting the FF.
Most obvious with Johnny and Ben, but I never took for granted how silly Reed's powers could look under the wrong hands, where we get into Elastic Man/Plastic Man territory. Not appropriate for the team's most serious member!
JB: Becoming more and more isolated was a self-defense mechanism on Chris' part. As "mutants" became the Big Selling Point at Marvel. other offices started poaching the X-characters without clearance. So Chris did all he could to move the characters away from easy access.
Can't say I blame him!!

That makes a lot of sense. It's pretty bad when your characters show up in books without your awareness, especially when they act out of character or do things that go against all that you're establishing in your own title. I guess I can't blame him either.
My First Rule of Reed is to not have him stretch his neck. It’s something Kirby did VERY rarely, and it’s pure Plastic Man.
(Worth noting that the name Plastic Man, as originally conceived, did not refer to plastic, the moldable material, but to his ability to assume any form he chose. That turned up a few times in the early days with Reed, but he quickly settled into “just” stretching.)*

* I’ve found it interesting, over the years, when occasionally fans have told me they find Reed’s power “gross”.
The rare use of his abilities to disguise himself demonstrated a level of control exemplifying his intelligence said as much about the character as it did about his powers.
Same with Sue, often considered to have the most boring powers (great work turning that around!), from an artistic standpoint (not drawing what can't be seen) was always more fun to me than the dotted lines.
