"Thing" has certainly changed its meaning over the decades. When Stan and Jack created Ben's monstrous alter-ego there was no concern over the use of the term. Even as recently as the Seventies, Marvel could give us the Man-Thing, not to mentioned GIANT-SIZED MAN-THING.Ironically, as the audience has grown older, the snickering has grown louder.

Ah yes, there's the Fantastic Four and then there's JB's Fantastic Four. Aside from the fist 50, JB's run is what I would call "the definitive" run.
