Jeez! Brutal keeps coming to mind this month. Never really thought about the sheer body horror involved with the first claw pop – and that it would be a surprise like that. One nightmare to another, it seems.
The pain Logan feels, popping those claws, is starkly rendered indeed. A dose of body horror and the anguish of knowing this is what they intend for him... that's a lot to deal with.
I'm glad to see you kept the claws as something that was done to him and not something he volunteered for. Despite his physical advantages and attitude, Logan has always been an underdog and someone to sympathize with for me. His being a victim of the government help support that.

One of the only things that the movies did right was the scene where Rogue asks him if it hurts when he pops the claws, to which he replies "Every time".

Oh what it has taken to let the story play out and not guess too much, but I couldn't help but speculate, especially once it was established that Logan's hunting abilities stemmed from training (although it would have been nice to see some of that played out: by the tribe? by the army?), about how the bezerker rages (some form of residual PTSD?) and the claws would be handled.
Very disciplined and nuanced approach to the origins of the various facets of what makes Logan who he is, some nature, some nurture, just like the rest of us.

My idea, that.
(I know it may seem I do a lot of MINE! MINE! MINE! around here, but when it comes to X-Men lore a lot of basic foundation came from the dark corners of my own mind. And Wolverine, as many of you know, was a pet project for me.)
As the Accountant of the board my ears perked up at the mention of billions of dollars earlier in the issue related to the cost of the implantation and in today's page the mention of $8 million. I suspect the cost is in the billions making this kind of procedure very costly and hence very unique. (along with needing a robust healing factor in your DNA).
