A bit of comic book shorthand of which I am quite fond, tho people have complained over the years that the starbursts are "not serious". It's long fascinated me the things that fans will single out as inappropriate. Man turns into giant green rage monster, fine. Punch the rage monster and see stars, outrageous!!
** Count me as someone who didn’t initially like them, but they’ve grown on me over the years, and I like when they show up. I think I initially associated stars with cartoons, not comic books! The earliest I remember seeing them is as far back as Namor (I’m sure earlier), so they’ve been a part of your repertoire for quite a number of years.
