And the effect is that I can feel Ashley's distress. I would be a mess after that treatment by Kitty.

JB: "...Wolverine’s 'berserker rages' were Chris responding to Shooter’s latest whim of iron: Logan could not kill intentionally—and, in fact, hadn’t, evidence to the contrary notwithstanding..."
Wolverine was shown going into a beserker rage in "Uncanny X-Men" #96, while fighting the N'Gari demon. He says to Professor Xavier and the other X-Men:
"Ten years o' psycho-training. O' hypnotism. O' drug therapy. Ten years o' prayin'... an' I cut him to pieces without a thought. Nothing changes, Prof-- I thought I'd learn to control myself-- I guess I was wrong-- An' ya wanta know somethin' funny?-- I'm glad!"

That dunking sequence was fun to read. I'd assume the underground would look pretty much pitch black to the person being dunked and the worst would be knowing if let go you would merge with the ground and most likely be dead (or .. gross .. merged with the ground and still alive). Not a power to be fooling around with. The only example I can think of where Kitty let go of someone in something solid was in a mini-series after Mr. Byrne left so it wouldn't count. Can't recall anything like that happening from 129-143 or during this series. None-the-less, not something to fool around with. Boy, a murderous Kitty could be super-scary couldn't she?

Wolverine acted deliberately, full in control of his actions. And, as noted, was happy about the result.

Kitty doesn't need to be a ninja to be terrifying – she just needs to lose her temper.

I think Kitty is angry because she fell for it and is retaliating over the top because she is mad at herself.

That makes Wolverine... worse, to me. Because he enjoys going all out to kill people.

It doesn’t seem as bad as I would have thought it would be, either. MODOK is able to talk while merged with the wall.

He does say he acted without a thought & that he thought he had learned to control his self.
I take that to mean that he was not in control - that he had failed to do so.
But he is happy with the results & how he did it, for whatever reasons.
