I had a mental chuckle only because for some reason my eye scanned to the head-splorched alt-Cyclops first and feeling a bit grossed out, and then my eye scanned left to Jean having the same reaction!

I like how Cyclops stood up for justice in the case of the alt-mutants. He knows they did horrible things but also that they had little or no choice.

It's cool to see the scale of the Shi'ar ship next to the characters. I've always loved pages like this in comics.

Agreed- that is really cool. Reminds me a tiny bit of when JB crashed the Helicarrier in the SENSATIONAL SHE-HULK GN-- you get a real sense of how BIG these things are.

It could also be the nature of Bobby Drake's power he could have a different set of 'handcuffs', something on his ankles keeps him from icing or somesuch...
Are those giant 'windows' on the two sides of the ship and we are seeing 'floors' and even figure squiggles inside? That's how I'm seeing it, and it adds to the impression of scale.

Can’t imagine Jean not searching for a spark of something in there…..If
I was her, I’d be scanning everything I saw for sentience, much less an
exact dupe of the guy she’s shared popcorn with at the movies. The
kind of moment that makes you want to reimagine your own future.

Awesome drawing of the Shi'ar ship, showing its size and bulk -- the hint of the decks inside through the vast 'portholes' is a cool touch.

This ending reminds me so much of the one-issue O'Neil/Adams/Palmer return of Professor X. Not just Professor X's central role, but the way story logic and heroic choices bring an earth-shattering war to a sudden close before it begins. There's a tension between the amount of story here and the amount of space this story should take up. I think the choice to move a quick close is a smart one that leans into the characters' strengths rather than turning them too-much into inter-dimensional guardians.
The writing on this entire series feels more akin to the break-neck, big-bang-for-your-buck style of those original-team X-Men comics than to the Claremont/Byrne UXM stories it connects to.
Something tells me that's not a coincidence.
*Edit to correct the credits. I had NO IDEA Denny O'Neil had written one of the famous Neal Adams X-Men issues. Like the Z'Nox, I would like to deliberately blow up my post because I understand what it could be, and caonnt continue to live with what it is!
