Arrogance is certainly one of Magneto’s greatest failings, but is it arrogance to do what one is absolutely certain one can do?To paraphrase, is a bird being arrogant when it flies?

Magneto's plan is foolproof. His original Brotherhood of Evil Mutants was okay, but his new one could take them apart in a minute. Now, with the most powerful mutants in the world at his side, persuaded by his magnetic powers (or whatever boost he uses), he will take over city by city until he rules America, and then the world. He cannot fail.
Just ask him.

Cyclops was traumatized by Wanda. Jean was traumatized by Scott. I wonder if he "takes" them when they're shocked and at their most vulnerable. That would seem likely to me.
I don't believe that Magneto could convince Namor to share his takeover (even though I know that happened); I can't help but think that this Earth's Namor will object more than a little. A possible Defenders vs X-Men battle is staggering and awesome in concept.
And of course, X-Men vs M-Men is nothing if not fantastic in concept! I can barely wait to see this one unfold!

That's a good point about the trauma. Magneto took Scott on in this story right after killing the closest thing he had to a parental figure.

And you know, I can't help but compare alt-Magneto's mellow tone here to when he first met "our" Magneto. This guy is really used to just doing whatever he pleases. He doesn't consider *anything* a threat.

It is really a clever story mechanism, Mr. Byrne --- telling the M-men's backstory through Scott...a character to which we are instantly sympathetic.
You've used it here to powerful effect.
