JB: Go back to that early Savage Land adventure Chris and I did. Pause for what was supposed to be a deep soul-searching moment for Scott. Except Chris went off-plot and turned it into a totally out-of-character feminist rant from Storm—and Scott became a jerk.

A scene that should have had fans weeping in sympathy with his pain, and instead, of many of them, one of Marvel’s finest, noblest characters was gutted.

I've sometimes wondered if Chris Claremont especially hated Cyclops, given all he did to drag him down.

It's this love and respect you have for the characters that makes your written work such a joy to read.

I've said it before, you are a true parent to these X-men (in particular). I will always trust you to be good to them.

This is my feeling as well-- between your original run, your contribution to X-
Factor, your work with Magneto on Avengers West Coast, X-Men Hidden Years,
and now Elsewhen, there is one person responsible for the existence of a
coherent and faithful extension of the original X-Men stories.

I mean, you know, for people who like that sort of thing!

And what made it worse was Logan was shown grieving over Jean right after...  Maybe if what he tells Jean way later about not being able to deal with the grief had been at least touched on in the savage land it would have come across a bit better.. It certainly seemed hugely out of character at the time given that he was literally weeping over her in X-men 101...

The third panel of the most recent page, where Cyclops turns to meet Dark Phoenix while instinctively protecting Jahf by putting his body between them, says all you need to know about Cyclops.

A simple image that speaks volumes...

Whoa! What is going on here with these false (?) memories here? Gorgeous retelling of the Blue Area battle.

Oh! Today's page! Wow.

There is something that resonates so powerfully when legendary events are revisited with this insane level-of-attention to the small details. It's like time-traveling. Your brain has no defense against it---a total emotional by-pass to your heart-strings.

...and boy, is this story line stirring up all the old ghosts.

Love it. Thank you.

It's been simultaneously amusing and disheartening when, over the years, I have encountered fans who think I do nasty things to the characters because I don't like them.

As I often try to impress upon these folk, characters I don't like are, generally speaking, characters I don't work on. And if I do, sometimes, find myself saddled with a character I genuinely don't like, I do the best I can anyway.
