... killing Jean Grey (Phoenix)...

•••

That was mine. Shooter wanted her “horribly tortured for all eternity”.

[Bringing back Jean] felt like a ploy to sell the new upcoming X-Factor book.

•••

Well, it wasn’t NOT that......

<<<Shooter’s whim of iron ofttimes tended to retroactive. Take his decision that all stories must be single issues AS OF RIGHT NOW. Not as soon as you’re done with what you’re working on, but STARTING with what you’re working on.

Which was a major contributing factor in Rog and me leaving CAPTAIN AMERICA.>>>

I don't know how you guys kept working under those conditions. No wonder so many jumped ship for DC. The saddest part is that after the DC exodus, when Shooter had full control, the books became so excruciatingly dull. Strange times.

Wow. Wolverine has really lost it! I'm not sure I can blame him though. Given what he's suffered, rational thought is probably impossible at the moment.

Something I never thought about until now is that Wolverine deals with pain when he is hurt, but certain types of damage might feel equally or even more painful as his body’s healing factor kicks in. Case in point, a brain rebuilding cells must feel like the mother of all hang overs.

For a few minutes each day, I forget about stresses and the world, and actually get excited like a kid to see what happens when I refresh my Elsewhen page.
SO great! Today's Wolverine work is fantastic. Please don't ever ink or color the pages. The pencils are perfect and I'm starting to prefer them over "finished" pages.
Thanks!

Jason I agree, everyday is a guaranteed smile when I scroll to the latest page. It's the gift that just keeps giving. Thanks JB!

Now THAT is a bezerker rage! Perfect example of when to "cheat" and show Wolverine's eyes.

Looking at today's page (and back over the whole issue) it dawned on me that where and when to apply shadows is a singular skill in comic-art.

There a fewer shadows (and shades of shadow-gray) that one might expect. An yet the scene is clearly and fully visualized.

An amazing feat in pencils alone. Everything is so crisp without appearing flat, accomplished with minimal "shading".

Way cool.

It also seems like natural scenery (as oppose to figures) requires more shading to define it.

One of the first things inkers and colorist discover about my work is that my characters rarely cast shadows. It’s a bit of an insecurity issue. I consider two of the best shadow casters to have been Jack Kirby, whose shadows were totally stylized, and Wally Wood, who somehow managed to capture the exact shadow an object would cast.

Being fully capable of neither, I decided to use shadows only under special circumstances—namely, ones where I could cheat!!
