These stories surpass anything Marvel has produced in the last couple of decades. They are certainly the best X-Men 'read' since the 1980s. Hidden Years was wonderful - but to see John Byrne once again penciling the classic 'Uncanny' line-up is quite literally a dream come true.

It is a crime that these stories shan't see full formal publication (though no doubt there are numerous valid reasons) - but to be able to read the stories on this forum is an unparalleled joy.

Thank you, JB.

I have fully come around to the idea that this not being published is a positive thing. There are now zero constraints on this project. It can go as long as JB wants it to go. Hell, you could go full Superman/Spider-Man and have DC characters start showing up. The X-Men and the Metal Men versus the Sentinels!

With so many great Marvel characters at my beck and call, what need have I for the riff-raff?

Are the first 3 images of Kitty the same drawing?

I think it is JB duplicating Kitty for her tuck and roll panel.

Loving the look of Nightcrawler... That Sentinel was looking quite irritated even before Kurt saved Kitty...

Definitely some of the most daring Nightcrawler actions in these first two issues. I always liked the look of the character and used to have artists do sketches of Nightcrawler as "my thing" when I was younger at conventions, but I don't remember his powers being leveraged in the past the same ways we are seeing him written in Elsewhen. Typically, he seems to be a great distraction as he teleports into a fight, hits someone and then teleports away before they can react. I will have to go back and read my essentials volumes, but teleporting blind out of flying vehicles seems new and Kurt has done it once in each issue so far! Anyone with better memory recollect the craziest thing Kurt did in the book?

I would also note that it is very interesting to see Wolverine written to be largely ineffectual so far. He got torched inadvertently by Storm in Issue #1 and spent the issue regenerating which was nice to establish that his power is not almost instantaneous. He bounced remarkably well in Issue #2 and has done more damage to the Xavier school than any villain in the first two issues so far. Logan is/was arguably the most popular X-Men character ever and certainly the Hellfire Club battle in Uncanny X-Men #133 started it all. These stories are set right as his popularity was taking off and to see Wolverine essentially sidelined is rather brave. I wonder if other comic fans my age would find this fun like I do. As Wolverine's popularity rose it seemed his character gradually became more like a leader and less like the loose cannon I enjoyed. For me, the subtle shifts away from their roots is why I left the X-men books right around issue #200.

There is a great deal to like about Elsewhen, but one of the most enjoyable aspects is that the characters are written within the boundaries of their roles so far and there is no sign that will change.

Blind? The sentinel made a couple of big damn holes in the side of the building. Why assume Kurt is teleporting blind?

Good point. I was assuming no line of sight and ignoring the extent of the damage as the Sentinel pursued Kitty further into the building. Nightcrawler comes off as very daring on page 15. It's great.
