Steve Englehart came in one day, talked to every editor, basically begging for work, and got nothing.___________________
That's why I lay the problems of the industry at the feet of the editors and the "suits" above them. The editors I grew up with started as writers and artists and I knew their work and could trust them when they "graduated" to editor. Nowadays, the editorial names are total unknowns. Why in the world "Joe Nobody" should have hiring/firing power over people like Steve Englehart or Jerry Ordway (or JB or Jim Starlin, etc.) is beyond me.
Englehart wrote the ten best (to this day!) issues of JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA and his BATMAN/DETECTIVE issues are still being mined for ideas in the movies and GOTHAM TV show! (Not to mention his runs on DR. STRANGE, CAPTAIN AMERICA, AVENGERS, etc. and their influence on later comics and movies!) DC should be begging HIM for work, not the other way around.
