Speaking of Jean, do you feel your "take" on her has changed between Uncanny, Hidden Years and Elsewhen?  (I always thought it was brilliant how you could draw Jean and Phoenix so subtly different enough to express both versions of the same person)

And is there any tiny, tiny possibility we can get another sneak peek at Jean in Elsewhen?

Here's an out-of-context shot of Jean on the way to getting into some serious trouble…

Altho at this point she still has the intellectual capacity of a 5 year old, I finally gave up and accepted that I would not be able to make her look like herself without at least SOME "grown up" makeup. Perhaps her mother lets her play with her cosmetics...?

I'm learning for the first time that there really is a 1407 Graymalkin Lane…

Geez, it seems Marvel's lawyers would have been all over that!!

Gorgeous Jean!  Thanks so much!  The one thing that I keep saying that amazes me about this whole Elsewhen project is how seamlessly you're able to recapture the look of these characters again.  That's the Jean that had adventures in Hidden Years, was woken from her cocoon in FF, and battled for her life in 137.  Amazing!

Well, technically that was two different Jeans--something that will play an important part of my unfolding storyline in ELSEWHEN.

JB,

From the artwork that you have tease on this site. Have other creators that were working at Marvel (especially, on the X-Men) during that time (1979/80) inquired about this project?

Thanks

Sorry, James, I don’t understand the question.

No problem.

Let me get a little granular with it.

Have folks like Roger Stern, Jim Salicrup, "Weezi" Simonson or Terry Austin commented about the pages you teased on this site?

Thanks

I'm not even going to comment on my excitement over this statement!

But, here's a question:

I know (via previous interviews) that you never intended to kill off Jean, but once she was dead, did YOU ever intend on bringing her back? (I know there was some sort of mess with how she ended up coming back for X-Factor)

Lovely looking picture of Jean. In the past, pictures of Jean by you have tended to have more 'open' hair. Is the presence of more black in the curls just a natural evolution of where your pencils are at right now?

This is where Jean was left in both versions of 137.

Jean's hair turned dark when she became Dark Phoenix, and it stayed dark after the "lobotomy" (in the original version) as a subtle hint that all was not well. That continues in ELSEWHEN.
