With the WIP, I had more of a JB-Moebius vibe. The lines
seem more organic and loose.
With the finished art, it is more a JB-Kirby one.
Both versions look awesome.

Sweet torture.... to see how incredible well you draw these characters, yet knowing there is no Byrne comic book on the stands for me to pick up..... ARRRGH!!
Way to go John! I see a bit more of a nod to Kirby with some Kirbyish shading on the machinery on the lower right and also in that super cool piece of tech that frames the Surfer. I join the chorus in saying you own Galactus you make the character look fabulous every time you draw him and the Silver Surfer is outstanding as well - you always find that perfect balance when doing the silver highlights, never heavy handed, just spot on.
WOW, love the piece!!!!

Mr. Byrne, if there are shots to get what YOU have, I want to sign up for a full session of 'em. Right now!
Even Kirby Krackle in that piece. There is a tremendous majesty in that drawing that captures the attention. I would LOVE to know the story around this image. Somehow, I suspect it's not a Daredevil story...

The black areas really add impact to the commission (and help the stars and other sky objects to show up better!)

In the first image posted, the stars are merely droplets of liquid mask, and there is no concern about whether they "show up" or not. The addition of black does not correct a flaw in the original image.

Yes, I understood that. I was just being "cute" with the stars remark. I didn't mean to imply the first image was flawed. Seeing the behind-the-scenes work-in-progress aspect of the stars is one of my favorite aspects of this commission. The prep work done really helps lead to an impressive finish with the final image, which is mouth-droppingly good.
