JB's use of Sue's powers in essence turned her into the Invisible Lantern, the one whose powers go beyond the visible spectrum! She can create just about anything she can imagine, and no one else can see what's coming or what's about to hit them... Pretty formidable.
What's interesting is that, as JB and Greg said, the potential had been established, but the other writers only seemed to remember the scenes in which she fainted because the strain of using her powers was simply too great!
