If Wolverine is walking in the woods and there is no one around to hear him, does he make a sound? Great job! I'm liking the Landscape format, it really works well with this commission.

Very nice. I love the detail in the ground and what looks like rotting wood "melting" into the forest floor.

the deer almost looks like it's glowing. •• Good! I wanted to give the impression she was in a shaft of sunlight, without actually indicating the shaft of sunlight. +++ The undetailed tree adds a nice balance to the piece. •• Originally, I planned to add bark texture, but for no particular reason I left that tree -- and the one along the right border -- to last, and decided I liked the way it pushed Wolverine that one extra little bit toward the viewer.

The most arresting part of the piece to me is Wolverine's expression. I've rarely seen the character radiate a genuine smile of pure joy. Whenever I've seen recent interpretations, when he does "smile", it always seems to be a sardonic, derisive smirk. His face here is what makes it most striking to me. Wow.

By the way -- before any of the artists among you call me on it, I want to point out that, yes, I did break a "rule" on this one, by having Wolverine leading with his left arm and his left leg.

That thought never entered into this artist's mind at all! I was too taken with the beauty of the piece as a whole.

Great job on the Inks JB! Your variations in line weight really add a fantastic sense of depth.
I love your deer as well.

Cause, Y'know John Byrne doesn't do backgrounds :) You certainly knocked this one out of the park Chief.  Absolutely stunning.
