The black bag was to "spare me the shame of being seen with a John Byrne comic" is what the "wiseguy" told me last week, and is true I've been the laughing stock of some guys I know because, according to them, I was one of the three that bought Trio -one even asked me if this was "Fantastic Four sans one" and his friend added "is the Fantastic Four, the other member is invisible the whole issue"-. I feel like I'm being bullied for buying what I like, some make jokes about Legion of Super-Heroes. I'm no cool, you know?In this shop all the bags are black, but they never show you or give you the comics inside the shop in a black bag, they put the comics in the bag after you pay for them.
And sadly is the only comic shop left in México City.

Ah yes, I had forgotten about the rendering times. For the final it was "let's see what we have for this mornings results".I love the image of the Enterprise firing it's phasers. Also having the Enterprise encounter Apokolips in another image is great too.

I have the same email from my online store citing the book as "canceled by Previews". Same goes for the variant for Next Men 44. ??? Very upsetting.

I haven't received any e-mails from Diamond or IDW about the variant being cancelled. Odd.

Franco: I just received an e-mail from my on-line comic book store stating that Previews has cancelled the Trio # 2 Variant Cover?
---
One of the guys at work went to a comic shop and lunch -- and came back with this news: "IDW cancelled TRIO 2".
Now it makes sense... a game of telephone. Sounds like the 2nd Variant cover was cancelled - not the book.

Matt - maybe you'll get word soon.
This was the email from my comic shop online:

odd that the reasons are different (above) -- one is for "cancelled by publisher", the other is "cancelled by Previews" .... ???

TRIO -- That reads like the 10 copy incentive is not being offered. But the cover is done, weeks ago -- Tom Palmer inkes -- so I don't know what this means in the broader scope of things. There was no alternate cover for AFTERMATH 44 -- a least, none that I produced. And the cover being used would hardly lend itself to a "sketch variant"!! Reads to me as if maybe PREVIEWS automatically solicited a variant cover when none was planned, so are having to "cancel" it.

That makes sense for the NEXT MEN - but really bothers me about the TRIO.
Comics at the comic shop here in Australia are stupidly expensive (a regular $2.99 book sells for $8) so I don't shop at the store, I buy online and save a lot of money, even with the shipping every 6 weeks or so. But it makes it difficult to deal with the store online as I can't discuss things directly, I must wait days for email replies, etc.
I guess there's always eBay if I miss out.

Chris Ryall is looking into the PREVIEWS mystery, but assures me the variant cover has, indeed, been printed. He even sent a photo of the advance copies he's received of each:
