According to the thread about this thread at Newsarama's forums,
Marvel editor Tom Brevoort has said in an e-mail to artist (and JBFer) Dusty
Abell that he'd fully support this and that all JB has to do is call him to start
negotiations.
---
I wish there were a direct statement to that effect from him somewhere.
By the by... I liked Dusty Abell's stuff for the INVINCIBLE "companion" books.

I'm well aware, Arc. But the thread doesn't have that tone to it.

Oh well, nice to see they don't attack Byrne as often as they used to.

…all JB has to do is call…•• Okay, you're all clear on this, right? Last time I had any dealings with Marvel I was lied to, lied about, and, as noted, royally ed over -- but / should call them.

I really, really, really, would love to see this book. But you should not make the call.

Marvel should offer the right deal and olive branch to JB not the other way around. Especially after the way Hidden Years ended.

Agreed. Besides, the thing about Tom Brevoort's only hearsay.

Let me get this straight: A Marvel editor is interested about a suggestion made in an open forum, a suggestion that will probably earn them money, and he doesn't act upon it? He waits the creator to ask? Why?!? Why risk losing money, for crying out loud?!?!?!

This* is alleged to be the words of Breevort. I would say its far from a guarantee that an X-Men Evermore book, as we've discussed, would be greenlit. It reads, to me at least, that he'd push to welcome JB back, if JB makes the call.
*The poster, the first post on the third page of comments, claims that the words are Breevort's from an e-mail exchange and provides a "direct quote."

The clear statement made in this thread is that JB would be excited to do this book if an equitable protection from a repeat of his XHY experience could be worked out.
In other words, the only thing holding this back would be Marvel's need to reserve the right to repeat their treatment of him over XHY.
So many obvious ways to make that deal leap to mind. It couldn't have been THAT much fun to fire JB on XHY-- could it?

I think everyone, JB excepted, needs to let bygones be bygones concerning XMHY. It was eight years ago now, it was a completely different Marvel to the one we have today. Marvel just want the best creators in the industry working for them - and JB is one of the very best - and they don't hold grudges against anyone based on any past experiences. They just want to make good comic books and keep the company profitable.
I'd hate to see this opportunity fizzle up because both parties are waiting for the other side to make the "first move". JB, you're right, they should be calling you initially - but is it not worth you being the bigger man and calling them, even though it really should be the other way round, so you can once again be reunited with the characters you love so dearly? The fact you've done those sketches and the fact that you've had so many ideas in your head already... it just shows how much you love those characters and how much you miss them. We all miss them too, and we all want to see you working on them again.
