Extended claws with nowhere for them to retract to. Is
thinking just not required at all any more?
That has been my biggest dssapointment with this book so
far, it appears they're going with the "organic" version of
Wolverine's claws instead of the bionic implant version.

I read the review at CBR and saw some preview pages. It turns me off in the same way that WHAT IF... did when I first discovered it: it does things with the characters that are too far removed from what would have actually have happened in the regular title.
There's no way Claremont would have jumped into a Logan/Jean romance at that point in the story. There's no way that Kitty and Nightcrawler would have been in the book since they were central to Excalibur. Claremont needed to treat the story with a little "hypothetical editoral interferance" for me to get into it. Then he could slowly start to do the things he wanted to do.

I don't have much interest in this "Forever line" of comics. I'd much rather Marvel and DC create a line akin to the DC Animated Universe allowing creators to tell stories in an idealized setting. NOT Ultimate Marvel and NOT the Adventures line.

I have mixed feelings about this series.
Towards the end of his first run on X-Men, I was actually glad in someways to see Claremont go as his last couple of years on the book weren't his best.
I'll give it a try and see what comes of it.

The problem with the concept is that Claremont didn't go back far enough!

My link to the Forum decided to misbehave just as I attempted to post my
last missive. I'd added an additional line -- wondering if the
misrepresentation of Wolverine's claws (especially since one is broken!)
might be some kind of clue.

I will say that I'd much rather see "Marvel Universe Forever" than much of what's being published. I've kinda come back to Marvel with Brubaker's Cap, Thor (when it comes out), Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy (the cosmic stuff in general has been very good of late) but what's being done with the mainline stuff, particularly X-Men, Avengers and Spider-Man, leaves me cold. Dark this, dark that. Blah. Marvel HAS been doing some quality stuff here and there, but their overall philosophy leaves a lot to be desired.

So "X-Men Forever" is the new "X-Men The Hidden Years"????
••
No. X-MEN FOREVER is more like Earth 2. HIDDEN YEARS actually dropped
into an existing "gap" in X-Men history.

Five issues and only one night? Really? Ugh.

I'm thinking it's simply a good old dead impostor. Grummett seems to know his stuff when it comes to comics.
I'd also like to compliment Grummet's art for being a breath of fresh air. It's nice to see a new superhero comic from Marvel that looks like a superhero comic for a change. That first page gives me a big John Buscema vibe.

BTW -- as I have said before, if Marvel were to call me up one day and offer me something along these lines, rather than returning to the FF I'd much rather be handed the X-Men again, but starting with 94. My own answer, as t'were, to Angel's question at the end of GSXM 1 -- "What do we do with 13 X-Men?"Marvel, in fact, has the potential here for a fun (I know! That word is not allowed!) sort of "What If?" scenario. Give anybody who wants it their own crack at any existing title, beginning at any point in the continuity. And whether or not they'd ever worked on the book before. I think it would be a hoot to see different versions of the FF, the X-Men, Spider-Man, Hulk, etc, all picking up from different points and spinning off in their own directions, not bound in any way by canon.
