For some reason a purely speculative story about Steve Ditko and an abortive "return" to Spider-Man has crept into this thread. I have deleted several posts containing references to this. "Thought experiment" is one thing, unsubstantiated rumor is something else entirely.

Ah... Cyclops. The real deal, man. Excellent. And a perfect Kitty too.
What could have been...!

Not going to happen, campers! For a start, after my experience on XHY, I'd need a helluva pre-nup!

I can't say that I blame you for wanting something like that.
Very nice teaser drawings, JB. If you pass those on I am sure they would get snagged up pretty fast (and hopefully by me)!

I know this isn't going to happen, but what a great thread. Thanks for feeling the need to knock out a few character sketches. The sadness on Scott's face is perfect.

Wow, this is all so tantalizing. But we know it won't ever happen, don't we? :(

Those images look great - thanks for sharing, JB. In spite of the Byrne-nay-sayers out there, I've got no doubt that a Byrne/Marvel/X-Men combo would sell a heck of a lot of copies. I'll never give up hoping for it to happen - Chris's editor on X-Men: Forever, Mark Paniccia, is one of the best editors in the business. He's very good at keeping the talent happy and it's my personal belief that JB would enjoy working with him. Chris seems to have quite a bit of creative freedom and I don't see why JB wouldn't be afforded the same.
It will be interesting to see if XMF continues to sell well as the series progresses. If anything, the series seems to be attracting even more attention now that the first couple of issues are on sale.

Awesome, those look like the real cyclops and kitty pryde. Your faces seem more realistic with the way you draw today somehow, like those were real people who you were sketching and not just comic book people.

A positive benefit of doing the STAR TREK and ANGEL stuff for IDW. Altho the demand for exact likenesses is not high (fortunately!), I do have to come within hailing distance of the real faces, and that means the faces I invent have had to become more realistic, too, so as not to stand out too much from the real people.

...please remember I would hardly be negotiating from a position of strength.
***********
Well, 120,000 page hits might disagree with you! If an off-hand comment about the X-Men could generate that kind of buzz, imagine what an actual book could do.
And it's not like Chris Claremont was considered a "hot" writer in 2009. But by all accounts, X-Men Forever #1 was a big success by current sales standards.
