Hey, clearly it would be a hoot and a half, but too much would have to change at Marvel and in fandom before I would waste energy on upping it to a "desire". A fun thought experiment only, as I said.

Here's hoping for change (is this an Obama slogan?).

It sounds like it would be indeed a fun ride for us passengers as I am also one of those individuals who was at my own personal "golden era" of comics when you were working on the X-Men.

Well I'd keep those plot outlines handy, stranger things
have happened. The nice thing about going back to older
issues is nothing can happen to change the past. Well
unless Kate Pryde went back to the X-men around issue 30
instead, you never know with those pesky people from the
future always wanting to change the past...like us.

The thing that is most appealing about this notion -- and I'm sure this is what Chris likes about it, too -- is that this is an "alternate reality", sort-of-but-not-quite an ongoing WHAT IF? So even if the "Past" was changed (and, given stuff like FIRST CLASS, it already has been), it would not have to have any impact of stuff shunted off onto its own "spur line".

Continuing the thought experiment, it would of course be absolutely mandatory that Chris and I never, ever look at each other's books. Part of the fun would be seeing how often, if ever, we "intersected" without consultation.

Does this mean that folks could get killed or worse more often than if it were a regular title?  (I axe ´cause that sure seemed to happen a lot in the old What If..s).

LOL I hope Kate Pryde comes back from the DoFP future and joins, it would piss off so many people.

I know it's lame to be entertained by this, but it's particularly amusing reading complaints about Chris altering or ignoring changes from sister books published nearly over 20 years ago.

Well, if we take Chris' first issue at face value. . .

It would be worth doing X-MEN EVERMORE just to hear all those exploding
heads when they see my first splash page. . . .

Maybe I'll do the whole thing with characters wearing mustaches, and post it
here!

He set the ground rules, didn't he?  He was the one who said that everything pre UXM 279, I think it was, and X Men 3 still happened.  Is it wrong that this includes characterization?

If, for example, Claremont thinks that Jean should have dumped Scott long before based on Maddie, say that and write the book like that.  Don't write Jean as if she's hot and bothered for Logan, basically settling for Scott, when you're claiming everything before you left counts.  Cause that's sure not what we saw in X Factor.

If he doesn't like Charlotte Jones, can he just bring Candy back as Warren's love interest and dimninish what was happening with Charlotte at the time?  Even back then, the X Universe had gotten pretty big.  A lot of one time X Men were being handled by other writers.

As I said, it's his book and universe, do what you want.
Just don't outline ground rules that you are not following.  I'm certainly not claiming that the book is filled with it either.  But those Jean, Scott, Logan panels are off to what I read back then.

Not that it's even that big of a thing because it's Claremont's reality.  Readers who don't like what he does can just ignore it.  Logan fans who don't like what he's done can ignore it.  It's not the main universe.

I can't ignore Sins Past, Morrison's X Men and Millar's Reed Richards.  They weren't alternate universe stories.

I have to say that I get a kick out of the book's title, John.

JB, you SHOULD post it here!
The fan fiction thread is a perfect spot, and you could
sketch the whole story out in stick figures.
Ha! It would take you an hour, tops. and the story-telling
would be way more clear than some other artist's.

DO-IT!
DO-IT!
DO-IT!
