-And because it's a Marvel book, it's already behind schedule.
••
Nah. I have six issues in the drawer. Of course, the editor will probably
forget them, so the first issue will ship late.

John, I'm not defending that page. I'm not contesting your point that she is no twin of Jean there. Keith's post seemed to imply that the original intention was changed. Well, it was as far as who Maddie was. But the fact that she was supposed to be a dead ringer for Jean, storywise, is there from the start. That she wasn't shown that way in the art is not something I'm contesting.

When Madelyne showed up I just thought Cyclops had a thing for redheads. That's what I recall thinking, at the time it didn't register as a twin.

Look at all the other characters' reactions to seeing
her. She's got to be pretty damn close to looking like
Jean.
Maybe I'm missing it but they don't seem to be reacting at
all :/ No dropped jaws or raised eyebrows, Alex and Corsair
seem to be reacting rather casually.

It's calling for a helluva jump from the readers, isn't it, to assume a redhead who looks nothing like Jean as drawn is Jean's physical twin. Read the dialog. Even Scott's "Dad and Alex see it, too" does not point that way, since, based on their expressions and dialog, they are not "seeing" anything out of the ordinary.

JB,
It makes me laugh that this sounds like a
'Bad Marvel Story' rather than 'Bad Byrne'.
The only difference is that this one sounds about true.

It never registered she was supposed to be Jean...the redhead thing sure...I remembering asking everyone about her name cause it was on her jacket thinking I missed something.

I'll acknowledge that you see nothing from Alex and his father, but there reaction is a word and a line. No denying, though, we see no reacton from them.
But Scott? That face, that voice, it's impossible? What do you think he's saying? He's aso claiming that Alex and his father see it too. I took that at face value that if Scott was thinking it that it was probably true.
I don't know what to tell you. When I first read that book my impression was that Scott thinks this woman looks and sounds just like Jean. Regardless of whether I thought the artist made her look enough like Jean.

I read the book with Madelyne's first appearance the same day my brother did. He didn't get who she was supposed to be, but I figured it out. Or at least Jean was my best guess, since I couldn't think of any other person he'd be shocked to see...
Of course, the next issue she could have been revealed to be Scott's sister, and he recognized her because of her resemblance to his Mother...

This was the moment my interest faltered. I had trouble understanding why Claremont would double back and start the Jean Grey business all over again. I hung on for two or three more months then dropped the book and never went back.

Over on the comixfan boards, Claremont has responded to JB's desire to do his own X-Men Forever story. In a nutshell, he says he is intrigued by this idea and hopes that JB will get the chance to do his own X-Men Forever book.
