For what it's worth (if anything), in an issue of World's Finest during its "Superman's Brave & Bold" phase, Superman first fought, then teamed up with the Martian Manhunter, and thought something along the lines of "People used to wonder if the Martian Manhunter was as strong as I am, and, judging from his punch, the answer is YES!".

SER: Yeah, my issue with Martian Manhunter being in the same strength class as Superman is that it doesn't make a lot of sense when you consider that Mars isn't *that* far away from Earth to explain MM having god-like powers. Invisibility, flight, speed, and so on, sure, even a bit more strength than the average person -- but nowhere in the same league as Superman, who comes from a different solar system and possibly galaxy*!

*I always thought it was a bit unnecessary to put Krypton in a different galaxy. The Milky Way is pretty damn big.

I liked that the JL cartoon played Martian Manhunter as DC's Vision to a degree.
